The library is housed in an independent building named as Dr.Ambedkar Centenary Bhavan. It occupies an area of about 1298 sq mtrs with three floors. There are five divisions in the library. They are lending, reference, periodical, digital & PG library. It has a collection of 62000 volumes and 17000 titles covering all disciplines in UG & PG courses. The library had a seating capacity for 255 students.  

The Ground floor occupies stack section, circulation counter and Newspaper section.

The First floor houses PG library and digital library.  The PG Library has a collection of 7100 vols and 1803 titles. A fully furnished reading section is available; accommodation has been made for eighty members. And a digital library has been maintained with 12 systems in the first floor of the library. Recently an installation has been made for the Tech focus digital library software of CD server, version 3. 02 & it is networked with 12 systems. Digital Library will be operating from morning 9 am to 4.30 pm.

The second floor is the reference section which is well equipped and furnished. It has a capacity for 135 students.  Reference section has 17000 vols and 16000 titles, with latest encyclopedia sets on nanotechnology, Chemistry, CES & Elns. Latest hand books on Mechanical, Civil, Elns, CES and ISE are also added, under TEQIP fund.
The Reference section works from 9-00 AM to 8-30 PM.  For the benefit of the staff and students, the books will be issued from the same section for overnight use.
 

 

The periodical section has 60 national Journals & International journals are available on line through INDEST –AICTE on IEL, ASCE & ASME (141 Jls). Apart from these, membership has been taken from the DELNET (Developing Library Networking) & British Library to provide access to all the books and journals.

Dr. V. Bheema Raju, Professor & Head, Department of Chemistry is the Chairman and Sri. K. V. Manjunath, Senior Lecturer, Department of Civil Engineering is the Secretary.

The Indian Society for Technical Education ( ISTE ) Chapter is very active and regularly conducts technical lectures, workshops, seminars and short-term training courses for the benefit of teachers. The ISTE student branch conducts activities for the benefit of students of all branches of engineering.

During 29th and 30th November 2004, the ISTE chapter has conducted VII ISTE Karnataka State Convention and a National Seminar on " Building National Competitive Advantage through Technical Education ".

About 300 delegates participated in the convention and about 75 technical papers were presented.

IEEE Student Branch

Student branch of the prestigious Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (IEEE), USA, is established recently. It helps the students through Professional Awareness Conferences and Professional Awareness Ventures. Ms. Leena Giri G. and Mrs. Yamuna Devi C. R., Senior Faculty members of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and Telecommunication are doing a good job as student counselors.

NSS

National Service Scheme (NSS ) Unit was started in the year 1997. Shri. G. Ravindra Kumar, Senior Lecturer, Dept. of Civil Engineering is the Programme Officer.
The Unit conducts various activities, which includes annual blood donation camps, 15 day AIDS awareness programme,  programmes on environment protection, and Natural Disaster Day. Awareness about saving of Power is brought in the student community and in the nearby villages in coordination with BESCOM.

Extra curricular activities

The Institute encourages the students to patricipate in all sorts of cultural events being held within the college and outside the college. Dr. B. Vannappa of Civil

Engineering Department as the Student's Welfare Officer, Prof. B. V. Sumangala of Electrical Department, Prof K. V. Manjunath from Civil Department and Sri. H. A. Thulasiram,  Registrar of Dr. A.I.T. as its members is constituted by the Principal. The committee encourages the students to conduct MAITRI - a freshers day to establish a cordial relationship between senior students and fresh students who were newly admitted. The committee also encourages the students to conduct annual cultural day in the name of " RHYTHYM " by inviting the students of other colleges also and also encourages students to participate in all cultural events being held at inter college level, and the VTU Youth Fest held each year. Two of the students 

Meghashyam of Ist sem B.E. Computer Science has won Ist prize in the percsion competition.
Aniruddha of 5th sem Information Science has won 3rd prize in clay modelling  
in the VTU Fest 2004 held at B.I.E.T. Davanagere during December 2004.
Apart from cultural activities the institute also encourages its students to participate in the various 
technical events being held both within the college and outside the college.
