1. OUR MISSION

 

Library serves as a resource center and aims to develop a comprehensive collection of books and journals useful for faculty and students of the institute and provides an efficient dissemination of knowledge.

 

VISION

 

1.    Library aims to be one of the best among engineering college libraries in the country.

2.    Library intends to incorporate the latest technology and adopt user friendly approach towards student and faculty.

3.    Library intends to offer comprehensive services related to dissemination of knowledge.

 

GOALS

 

          To educate students to contribute as Dynamic engineers and Citizens through the innovation, Integration, Application Transfer of Engineering knowledge.

 

          To be recognized as a world class Engineering college Library that provides an excellent learning materials timely and accurate information in various print and non print formats.

3. Growth of the Library

 

The Library came into being with establishment of Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Technology in the year 1979 at first block of Rajajinagar B’lore, in a single room. Then Institute was shifted to Mallathahalli, near Jnanabharathi campus Bangalore -56, there Library was occupied in a small corner portion of the civil dept in the year 1984, again it was shifted to P G Block Ground floor during 1988.

Then special interest taken by the founder trustee  late

Sri. Jayaprakash Narayan EX. MLA, during the occasion of Dr.Ambedkar centenary   birthday, a new  independent building came up by name Dr.Ambedkar centenary Bhavan during 1991. Now Library is full furnished

With good collection of books.

 

Various developmental stages of the library

1979 – 1983 PVP Building 1st block Rajajinagar B’lore – Single room

1984 – 1987 Civil dept. AIT Campus – Corner Hall

1988 – 1990 occupied in old MCA Dept.PG Block, AIT Campus –                      

            In a big hall.                    

           1991 -  Onwards Independent library building ‘Dr. Ambedkar

             Centenary Bhavan’ 1+3 storied building 1224 sq.mtrs.

           

          Location  Library is located in between the main building of Dr.AIT and Men’s Hostel. Behind the Syndicate Bank. Total carpet  Area  – 1224.84 sq. mtrs.

Circulation Section

    This section is located in ground floor of the library. The following facilities are available

Arrangement of Library collection:

The Library is adopting “open Access” system which enables the readers to go to the bookshelves and select books and other resources by themselves freely.

 

The reading materials are arranged as follows

 

Working Hours:

          AIT Library  works on all working days of the Institute with

          following times

         

          Monday to Friday –   9.00 am to 8.30 pm

          Saturday                -   9.00 am to 5.30 pm

                            (Without break)

Second floor is occupied by Post Graduate courses of MBA, MCA, .MTech cse and MTech Vlsi.The Total collection of P G courses is 7094 Vols,2136 titles, with seating capacity50 students.

 

PG. Library

 

Digital Library and E Resourses :  

          Digital library is housed in the second floor of the library. Thirteen systems are available. 1500 CD’s available on both books & Journals, which are arranged in the digital library.

 

 

Digital Library:

          Is setup with 13 systems users can access e-resources on IEL, ASCE

          and ASME Journal, and also access DELNET & CDs.

 

Digital Library Services

 

·        The college has taken up membership for E Resources sharing purpose from INDEST-AICTE consortium, DELNET. & British Library

·        Students and staff members can barrow the CD’s on ID card for overnight use

·        CD write facilities are available for the users

II. DELNET: which is network of 900 institutions and access is being given to more than 50 lakh records through on line systems Delnet has been actively engaged with the compilation of various union catalogue of the resources available in member libraries. It has already created the union catalogue of books, union list of current periodicals, CD ROM database. DELNET provides an array of facilities including E mail to its members libraries including both institutional and associate institutional members. It has indeed been a big leap towards the modernization of libraries in India.

DELNET is offering inter- Library loan & Document delivery services to its members libraries on request in delivering of books and journals through courier service.

III. British library membership : AIT has become the member of the British Library in order to help the users of our college. Students and staff may collect the membership cards from librarian, British Library members can barrow the books journals and browse the e resources.

Reference Section:

 

          This section is located in second floor. This section covers all UG& PG courses books ie Text books, Reference books, Hand books, Year books, Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, Competitive books and other important general books.

 

Periodical Section:

          Is located in 2nd floor of the library. There are 119 National Journals

are available. Student & Staff can make use of this section from 9AM  to 8.30 PM.

Library Resources

          AIT Main Library has an excellent collection of books, Journals.

Special ready reference books like Encyclopedia, Hands books, dictionaries competitive books and other rare books on various subjects and non book material like CD’s which are placed in the Digital Library.

Library Rules and Regulations.

         a. The books should be returned within 15 days from the date of issue

         b. The staff/ Students are must to return the books as and when they

              are called back  by the Librarian

         c. Before borrowing the book, the member must make sure that the

             book lent is in good condition and the page numbers are intact. 

         d. If a book is not returned when due, another book will not be issued.

         e. Reference books will be issued for over-night use.

         f. Members should not write or make any mark in any book / back

            volume / Journals taken out for the consultation or on loan.

         g. Book Eligibility

i). UG Courses       -      2 Books

ii). PG Courses            3 Books

iii). Sc/St Students –     8 to 10 Books

iv). Staff                      5 to 8 books.(Dept  Library facility

The borrower shall be responsible for any damage or loss caused to the library  documents borrowed by him/her. In case a book is lost by a student, it should be immediately informed to library staff in writing. If the book cannot be traced within two weeks, the borrower will be ask to either replace such material or to pay two times the cost of the book.

h.     If the book / resource form a part of a series damaged, the borrower will be charged for the entire set. No appeal for any concession will be entertained.

        j. The arrangements of chair and other furniture in the reading room

            should not be disturbed

        k. All the members of the library are requested to produce their ID card

                 to the Library staff if required.

        l. Library users should switch ‘OFF’ their cell phones are strictly

            prohibited inside the Library.

       m. No user shall deface the library books by underlining, scribbling

            notes in the margins etc.

       n. Library books are the nation’s assets and belong to all. All users are

           required to protect library books against wanton and willful damage,

            mutilation, theft and other malpractices.

       o. Folders, Files, Personal and issued books etc. should be kept in the

           security  counter provided at the entrance. These should not be taken

           into the library.

       p. Current journals are not issued for home reading.

 

Future plan for the library development:

          a. Planning to develop a Digital Library collection and install the

              digital library software.

          b. Planning to provide the RFID system for Circulation section. Its

               save the time for users

          c. Planning to install the IP based Dome Camera for all section

          d. Planning to install the libsys Library automation software

          e .Provision for CCTV
